I guess it's stood the test of time - difficult to predict that at the time.Mark Hodgsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08744056312268440003noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16605980.post-81422933721479518962011-05-24T07:35:28.008+01:002011-05-24T07:35:28.008+01:00I also first saw VANISHING POINT on a double-bill,...I also first saw VANISHING POINT on a double-bill, with YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN at my local Odeon. I then saw it again on TV once or twice, and have bought it on LD, on DVD (twice), and on Bluray. It's now an acknowledged 'cult classic' which it certainly wasn't when I first saw it; yet I always preferred it to EASY RIDER or TWO LANE BLACKTOP, a couple of road movies that enjoyed higher praise from critics and movie-lovers.

I saw the remake once on Sky and thought it was surprisingly okay, and wouldn't mind seeing it again. It's not been released on DVD though.

I like FEAR IS THE KEY too...always wondered if Newman was cast because of VP and if the extended car chase that opens it was influenced by the earlier but very different and unconnected film.Milesnoreply@blogger.com
